At AuraByte Studios (“we”, “us”, “our”), we respect your privacy and are committed to protecting it. This Privacy Policy governs your use of the software application Fiber Optic Calc (“the App”) for mobile devices. It describes what information we collect, how we use it, how we protect it, and the choices you have regarding your personal data.
By using the App, you consent to the data practices described in this policy. If you do not agree with them, you should not use the App.
Want your data deleted? You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings → Account → Delete Account in the App. If you have already uninstalled the App, use the account deletion request page.
1. Information We Collect and How We Use It
A. Account and Profile Information
Creating an account is optional. The App’s core engineering functions — network design, power budget calculation, OTDR fault location, and reporting — work fully without one. An account is required only for cloud backup, premium subscriptions, and cross-device functionality.
- Data collected: Email address, display name, username, and optionally a phone number.
- Purpose: To authenticate your identity, maintain your cloud profile, and sync your purchase history (Supporter Coffees, Ad-Free subscriptions).
- Storage: Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore. We do not sell or rent your profile information.
B. Device Identifier
- Data collected: The Android device identifier (
ANDROID_ID), a per-app, per-device value that is reset when the device is factory-reset.
- Purpose: To maintain the list of devices currently signed in to your account, so that entitlements resolve correctly and you can see where your account is in use.
- Scope: Collected only while you are signed in. It is not used for advertising, not used to profile you, and not shared with anyone.
- Deletion: Removed when you sign out on that device, and removed entirely when you delete your account.
C. Location Data
The App uses location permissions (ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION, ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION) for its mapping capabilities. Location is optional — you may decline the permission and place network components on the map manually.
- Data collected: Geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude).
- Purpose: Used locally within the App to calculate physical cable distances, drop fault-locator pins, and geolocate optical network components (OLTs, ONTs, splitters).
- Tracking: We do not track your location in the background. Location is accessed only while you are actively using a geospatial feature in the foreground.
- Sharing: Your coordinates are never transmitted to our servers. However, rendering a map necessarily discloses your map viewport and IP address to the tile provider in use — see §2.5.
D. User-Generated Content and Local Storage
The network designs, power budget tables, and custom engineering configurations (coupler ratios, splitter losses) you create are your property.
- Storage: Stored locally on your device’s internal storage (
.fiber and .loss files). If you enable cloud backup, an archive is written to your own Google Drive application folder — not to our servers.
- Access: We cannot access, read, or monitor your network designs. They leave your device only when you explicitly export, share, or back them up.
E. Field Photographs
- Data collected: Photographs you attach to network nodes, captured with the camera or selected from your device.
- Handling: The App uses the Android system camera and system photo picker, so it never requests broad access to your photo library. Photos are stored in the App’s private storage and, if you enable cloud backup, in your own Google Drive application folder.
F. Diagnostics and Usage Information
- Data collected: Device model, operating system version, crash and ANR reports (including stack traces), and automatically collected app usage measurements (app opens, session counts, screen views, and a resettable app instance identifier).
- What we do not collect: We do not log custom analytics events. We do not record your network designs, node names, file contents, email address, or username in diagnostic data.
- Purpose: Firebase Crashlytics is used to diagnose crashes and stability regressions. Firebase Analytics auto-collection is used to understand aggregate app usage.
G. Feedback and Poll Responses
Submitting feedback or answering a poll is entirely optional.
- Data collected: Your answers to in-app polls and any free-text bug reports or feature requests you choose to submit, together with your app version, app language, device model, and Android version, so that a reported problem can be reproduced.
- If you are signed in: your user ID and email address are attached, so that we can follow up on your report.
- If you are not signed in: the submission is recorded as anonymous and carries no identifier that links it to you.
- Scope: These submissions are write-only — the App can never read them back.
- Deletion: When you delete your account, your submissions are anonymised: the user ID and email address are stripped, and the remaining feedback is retained in aggregate form with nothing that identifies you. Anonymous submissions cannot be located at all, since they carry no identifier — please do not include personal information in free-text feedback.
H. Notifications
- Purpose: If you grant the
POST_NOTIFICATIONS permission (Android 13+), notifications are used strictly for service-critical billing reminders and renewal notices (for example, three days and one day before an automatic subscription renewal).
- Control: We send no marketing or promotional notifications. You can disable notifications at any time in your device’s system settings.
2. Third-Party Services and APIs
These providers have their own privacy policies governing their handling of data.
- Google Play Billing. Processes all in-app purchases and subscriptions. We never collect, process, or store your card, banking, or payment details.
- Google AdMob and the User Messaging Platform (UMP). Displays advertisements to free users and may use the Android Advertising ID and similar identifiers to serve personalised ads. Ad serving does not begin until consent has been resolved. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time from Settings within the App.
- Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Crashlytics, Analytics, Remote Config, Cloud Functions). Operated by Google.
- Google Drive. Used only to write cloud backups into your own Google Drive application data folder, using an access scope that cannot read the rest of your Drive.

Map tile providers. Rendering maps and exporting map images in PDF reports requires fetching tiles from third-party servers. This necessarily discloses your IP address and the map area being viewed to the provider serving those tiles. Depending on the base map style you select, that provider may be:

No account information, coordinates you have saved, or design data is sent to these providers — only the tile request itself.

4. Your Rights
4.1 All users
You may delete your account and all associated data at any time, directly in the App: Settings → Account → Delete Account. See §5.
4.2 EEA, UK, and Switzerland (GDPR / UK GDPR / revFADP)
You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing of, object to processing of, and receive a portable copy of your personal data, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority.
4.3 California (CCPA / CPRA) and other US state privacy laws
You have the right to know what personal information is collected, to delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing for cross-context behavioural advertising.
We do not sell your personal information for money. However, the use of advertising identifiers for personalised advertising may constitute “sharing” under the CPRA. To opt out, decline personalised advertising in the consent form, change your choice at any time from Settings within the App, or enable “Opt out of Ads Personalisation” in your Android system settings.
4.4 India (Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023)
As a Data Principal you have the right to access a summary of your personal data, to correction and erasure, to nominate another individual to exercise your rights, and to a grievance redressal mechanism. Grievances may be addressed to the contact in §8 and will receive a response within 30 days.
4.5 Brazil (LGPD), Canada (PIPEDA), South Korea (PIPA), and other jurisdictions
Where local law grants equivalent rights of access, correction, deletion, portability, or objection, we honour them through the same contact channel.
4.6 Exercising your rights
Use the contact details in §8. We will respond within 30 days. We may ask you to verify control of the email address associated with the account before acting on a request, in order to protect your data against fraudulent requests.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to provide the services you have requested, or as required to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our policies.
- Local data. Your locally stored
.fiber designs and configurations are deleted when you clear the App’s data or uninstall the App.
- In-app account deletion (Right to Erasure). Navigate to Settings → Account → Delete Account. A three-step confirmation is required (including typing “DELETE” verbatim) to prevent accidental loss. On confirmation, a backend Cloud Function purges your Firebase Authentication account, your Firestore profile document, your reserved username and phone index entries, your active device list, and all purchase record subcollections. This is immediate, permanent, and irreversible.
- Deletion without the App installed. If you have already uninstalled the App, use the account deletion request page. Requests are actioned within 30 days.
- Feedback and poll submissions. Anonymised on account deletion — your user ID and email address are stripped from every submission you made. See §1G.
- What is retained after deletion. A minimal audit record is kept to prove the deletion occurred and to prevent abuse of the deletion mechanism. It stores a one-way cryptographic hash of your email address rather than the address itself, so that a later support enquiry can be matched without us retaining anything that identifies you.
- Transient data. Authentication rate-limiting records expire automatically after five minutes.
6. Data Security
- Authentication: Rate-limited endpoints via Firebase Authentication mitigate brute-force login attempts.
- Transport: All network communication is encrypted in transit over HTTPS/TLS. Cleartext traffic is disabled at the platform level.
- Server authority: Subscription and entitlement fields can only be written by verified backend code, never by the client.
- Backup: Automatic cloud backup of the App’s data is disabled, so your credentials cannot be extracted from a device backup.
- Disclaimer: No method of transmission over the internet or of electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security against sophisticated attacks.
7. Children’s Privacy
Fiber Optic Calc is a specialised engineering tool intended for professional telecommunications engineers, technicians, and adult hobbyists. It is not directed to children.
- We do not knowingly collect, maintain, or use personal information from children under 13 (or the applicable age of consent in your region).
- If we learn that we have inadvertently collected personal data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.
- If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us using the details in §8.
